Lura I. "Betty" Altland
Lura I. "Betty" (Lighty) Altland, 85, died Thursday, July 22, 2004 at York
Hospital. She was the wife of the late Arthur L. Altland.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 26th at Shiloh Evangelical
Lutheran Church, 2201 Church Road, York with her interim pastor, the Rev. Dr. Jerry R.
Smith, officiating. Burial will be in Red Mount Cemetery. A viewing will be from 9 to 10
a.m. Monday at the church. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth
Road, York is in charge of arrangements.
Born July 8, 1919 in Washington Twp., a daughter of the late Charles B. and Mabel
(Smith) Lighty, she was a member of Shiloh Evangelical Lutheran Church was a gifted
gardener, and loved her hobby of being a seamstress when she would embroider and sew
patchwork quilts and pillows for her family.
Mrs. Altland is survived by a son, Mark D. Altland of York; four daughters, Lorraine E.
Hamm of East Berlin, Loretta E. Sheffer of Shiloh, Andrea M. Joyce of Coeur dAlene,
Idaho, and Barbara A. Arvin of York; seven grandchildren, Lorinda Lehman, Keith Hamm,
Heidi and Matthew Sheffer, Andrew and Nicole Arvin, and Kelly Joyce; seven
great-grandchildren, Philip and Patrick Lehman, William and Owen Hamm, Sage and Abbie
Joyce; and Owen Sheffer; two brothers, George Lighty of East Berlin and Charles Lighty of
Palmyra; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers,
Homer, Herbert, and Lewis Lighty.

Florence M. Anderson
Florence M. Anderson, 78, of 2930 Lake Meade Road, East Berlin, died Wednesday, March
30, 1988, in York Springs.
Born March 18, 1910 in East Berlin, she was the daughter of the late Albert J. and
Carrie Shultz Kimmel. She was the wife of George H. Anderson.
She was a member of Red Mount United Methodist Church and the Ladies Aid Society.
Surviving are two sons, Jack W. Anderson of East Berlin and Richard E. Anderson of
Gaines; a daughter, Alice F. Huffman of East Berlin, a sister Evelyn Spangler of New
Oxford; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Red Mount United Methodist Church in
East Berlin. The Rev. John E. Lehr will officiate. Burial will be in the Red Mount
Cemetery. Friends may call at Pittenturf Funeral Home in York Springs from 7 to 9 p.m.
this evening and on Saturday at the church from 10 to 11 a.m.

George H. Anderson
George H. Anderson, 93, of 2930 Lake Meade Road, East Berlin, died Wednesday Nov. 21,
2003 at his home. He was the husband of Florence (Kimmel) Anderson, who died in 1988.
He was born Jan 28, 1908 in East Berlin.
He was owner and operator of George H. Anderson & Sons Hay and Straw for over 50
years. He was a member of Bermudian Springs School Board from 1955 to 1981 and board of
directors of Dillsburg Bank. He was instrumental in saving and moving the covered bridge
that crossed Mud Run on Stoney Point Road in 1962. His hobby was woodworking and made many
pieces of fine furniture for his children and grandchildren.
Surviving are two sons Jack Anderson of Naples, Fla and Richard Anderson of Wise River,
Mont., one daughter Alice Hoffman of Emerald Isle, N.C., eight grandchildren and 12
great-grandchildren.
The service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday from Red Mount United Methodist Church,
1883 Baltimore Pike, East Berlin, with Rev Peter Robinson, Pastor of Zwingli UCC
officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. There will be no viewing, however, the
family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

Mrs. Sydney Baum, Aged 74 years, dies of influenza - ill four weeks.
Bermudian-
Mrs. Sydney (Nell) Baum, widow of George V. Baum died at the home of her son-in-law and
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Leathery, this place, at midnight Monday night from
influenza following an illness of four weeks. She was aged 74 years, 3 months and 2 days.
Besides her daughter, Mrs. Leathery, with whom she resided, she leaves a son J. Irvin
Baum, this place, a sister Mrs. Elizabeth Chronister of York, a brother Seright Nell of
this place, four grand children and one great grandchild.
The funeral will be held Thursday, meeting at the house at 1:30 p.m. The cortege will
proceed to the Redmount United Evangelical church where services will be held. The Rev. B.
L. Moore, pastor of Wellsville Evangelical church will officiate. Interment will be in the
cemetery adjoining the church. Funeral director Henry Emig, East Berlin, has charge of the
arrangements.

Vance A. Criswell
Vance A. Criswell of York Twp. Died June 14 (1997) at ManorCare Health Services South.
He was 81.
Mr. Criswell retired from Baltimore County Schools as a principal in 1980 after 38
years service. He then taught at York College. Previously he taught at Western Maryland
College and Gettysburg College.
A member of the U.S. Army, he served in World War II, retiring as Lieutenant Colonel.
He was a member of Red Mount United Methodist Church; and former Sunday School teacher.
He was a member of White Rose Masonic Lodge 706 Free and Accepted Masons, Ancient and
Accepted Scottish Rite of Harrisburg Consistory, York County Shrine Club, Legion of Honor
with the Zembo Temple; AARP; and Reserve Officers Association of York County. He was also
a life member of VFW Post 1400. He was former President of York Township Board of
Commissioners; and formerly served on the Board of the Dallastown Area School District.
He was a 1941 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania.
Born in Bermudian, Adams County, July 15, 1915, he was a son of the late Calvin K. and
Sadie M. Myers Criswell. He was the husband of Mildred H. Harbold Criswell, with whom he
observed a 55th wedding anniversary on Dec. 24.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a daughter, Kay A. Bozart, York, a son, Carl V.
Criswell, Dallastown, three grandchildren, and a brother, Arthur Criswell, Bermudian.
There will be no viewing. The service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Red Mount United
Methodist Church, 1883 Baltimore Pike, East Berlin (midway between East Berlin and
Franklintown along Route 194), with the Rev. M. Thomas Shatto, and the Rev. John E. Lehr,
retired former pastor of the Wellsville Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Red Mount United Methodist Church cemetery, with military rites by
the York County Veterans Honor Guard.

Mildred H. Criswell
Mildred H. Criswell of Shiloh died at 9:43 a.m. March 18 at York Hospital. She was 84.
Mrs. Criswell was a member of Red Mount United Methodist Church, East Berlin.
She was a volunteer for many years with the American Red Cross York County Chapter and
York Hospital.
She was a member of Shiloh Garden Club, Order of the Eastern Star York Chapter No. 169,
York Hospital Womens Auxiliary and Reserve Officers Association Ladies.
Born in Kralltown, Dec. 7, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Katie
Hoffman Harbold. She was the wife of the late Vance A. Criswell.
She leaves a daughter Kay A. Bozart of York; a son, Carl V. Criswell of Dallastown;
three grandchildren, two sisters, Catherine Wiley of Dillsburg and Jane Griest of
Wellsville and a brother, Carl Harbold of Wellsville.
Visitation is 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Red Mount United Methodist Church, East
Berlin, RD1. The service is at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church with her pastor the Rev. M.
Thomas Shatto, officiating and assisted by the Rev. John Lehr.
Burial is in the Red Mount United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Gerald M. Ebersole
Gerald M. Ebersole, 84, formerly of East Berlin, passed away Tuesday April 20, 2004, at
the Gettysburg Lutheran Retirement Village.
Mr. Ebersole was born Dec. 27, 1919, in Latimore Twp., Adams County, the son of the
late Herbert R. and Della M. Masemer Ebersole.
He was a lifelong farmer and retired after 25 years of employment with the former
Allis-Chalmers, York. He was a member of Red Mount United Methodist Church, East Berlin,
where he taught Sunday school. He was a graduate of the former East Berlin High School,
class of 1938, and was a graduate of Penn State University, class of 1940. He was former
member of the Bermudian Springs School Board for 16 years and was a local 4-H leader for
many years as well as a charter member of the Latimore Camp.
Mr. Ebersole is survived by his wife, Romaine Livingston Ebersole, three sons, Steve E.
Ebersole of Hanover, Timothy A. Ebersole of Gardners and Mark A. Ebersole of East Berlin;
two daughters, Linda R. Pugliese of Duluth, Minn., and Julia E. Highlands of East Berlin;
two brothers, Fred I. Ebersole of East Berlin and Samuel A. Ebersole of York; four
sisters, Sylvia M. Knapp of Carlisle, Grace A. Nagorny of York and Sarah E. Hess and Jane
A. Dietz, both of Dover; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gerald M. Ebersole.
Services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. in his church, 1883 Baltimore Pike, East
Berlin, with the Rev. Gilbert Livingston officiating. Burial will be in the Red Mount
Cemetery, East Berlin. Viewings will be held Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cocklin
Funeral Home Inc., 30 N. Chestnut St., Dillsburg, and on Friday from 10 to 10:30 a.m. at

Gerald M. Ebersole
Gerald M. Ebersole, 52, of East Berlin, died Sunday, Jan. 26, at Gettysburg Lutheran
Home.
He was employed as a meat cutter for Weis Market for 28 years, having worked last at
the North Gate Weis Market, York. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve. He also was a
member of Red Mount United Methodist Church, East Berlin; Fraternal Order of Eagles, York
Aries 183; 13th War Democratic Club and the Latimore Camp.
He is survived by his parents, Gerald and Romaine Livingston Ebersole of East Berlin;
two daughters, Stacie M. Horn of Red Lion and Jerri M. Ebersole of York; three brothers,
Steven E. Ebersole of Hanover, Timothy A. Ebersole of Gardners, Mark A. Ebersole of East
Berlin; and two sisters, Linda R. Pugliese of Duluth, MN and Julia E. Highlands, of East
Berlin.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 30, at Red Mount United
Methodist Church, Baltimore Pike, East Berlin, with Rev. Thomas Shatto officiating.

Rodney W. Fishel
Rodney W. "Charlie" Fishel, 31, of Dillsburg RD3 died suddenly Wednesday
evening, April 13, 1994, at his home.
Born Oct. 8, 1962, in Mechanicsburg, he was the son of William Fishel of Gardners and
Betty Powers Fishel of Dillsburg.
He worked for several years for R. H. Sheppard Company in Hanover and attended
Bermudian Springs High School.
Surviving are five brothers and sisters, Terri McCurdy of Dillsburg, Randall W. Fishel
of York Springs, Kimberly Melton of Gardners, Richard W. Fishel of York Springs and Ryan
W. Fishel of East Berlin, a maternal grandmother, Nora Arndt of Dillsburg, nieces,
nephews, aunts and uncles.
A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be
in Red Mount Cemetery, Dillsburg.

Walter S. Gettys
Walter S. Gettys, 79, formerly of 333 Spring Ave., died at 12:15 a.m. Sunday, March 21,
1999 at Hanover Hall.
Born Oct. 18, 1919 in East Berlin, he was the son of the late Lillie (Gettys) Marquet.
He had been a short order cook at Hanover Diner.
He was a member of Harold H. Bair American Legion Post 14. In 1938 he graduated from
York Springs High School. During World War II, he served as an Army Sergeant in the
Pacific Theatre of Operations.
Surviving are nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Panebaker Funeral Home, 311
Broadway, Hanover. The Rev. C. Leroy Doverspike, pastor of Lohrs Memorial United
Church will officiate. Burial will be at Redmount United Methodist Church Cemetery, East
Berlin. Military honors will be provided by the Allied Veterans Council of Hanover.
Viewing will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mae Gochenour
Miss Mae Gochenour, formerly of York Springs, died Wednesday, July 9, at the Brethren
Home in New Oxford where she was a resident. She was 97.
Born in Adams County, she was the daughter of the late Charles S. and Lillie M. Winand
Gochenour.
She was a retired registered nurse and a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. She
attended Shippensburg College and was graduated from the York Hospital School of Nursing.
Miss Gochenour served during World War I as a nurse and later worked at the Wilmington,
Del. Hospital as head operating room nurse for 19 years. In later years she worked as
nursing supervisor of Merciful Rest Home.
She is survived by two nieces and two nephews.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 9 a.m. at Red Mount Cemetery. The Rev.
William E. Bogholtz will officiate.
A viewing will be held this evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Pittendorf Funeral Home in
York Springs.

Jean G. (Gonseth) Hanchette, 83, of Hickory House, Honey Brook, Chester County, and
formerly of Lake Meade, East Berlin, died Thursday May 24, 2001, at Hickory House. She was
the wife of Markham W. Hanchette of Honeybrook.
Born Aug. 23, 1917 in Brownville, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Miles and Bina
(Parker) Gonseth.
She was a member of Red Mount United Methodist Church. She graduated from
Brownville-Glen Park High School, Class of 1935, and graduated Magna cum Laude from Elmira
College. She was a former officer of Lake Meade Community Club.
Surviving are one daughter, Diane D. Masten of Atglen, two sisters Ida L Parker of
Watertown, N.Y., and Doris West of Brownville, N.Y. and two grandsons.
The service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday from Red Mount United Methodist Church,
Baltimore Pike, East Berlin, with her pastor Rev. Thomas M. Shatto, officiating. Burial
will be in Red Mount United Methodist Cemetery. A viewing will be held at the church on
Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the time of service.

Harbold
John William Harbold, 83-year old farmer, died at the home of his son, Ellsworth
Harbold, Bermudian on Saturday morning at 8:15 oclock. Death was due to heart
attack. He had been suffering from a heart condition for several years but death came
unexpectedly. The deceased was the son of the late John and Mary (Grove) Harbold. He lived
in Adams County all his life. He was a member of the Latimore church of the Brethren.
Surviving are two sons, Ellsworth, Bermudian with whom he lived with for 29 years and
Harry M. Harbold, Glendale, Calif and a grandson. The funeral will be held Wednesday with
services at the home at 1:30 oclock and further services in the Redmount Evangelical
church. The Rev. Mr. Danner, East Berlin Brethren minister will officiate, assisted by the
pastor of the Redmount church. Interment will be made in the cemetery adjoining the
church. Friends may call at the home on Tuesday.

"Flick" E. Harlacher
Clyde "Flick" E. Harlacher, 79, of Homewood Plum Creek Nursing Center,
Hanover and formerly of East Berlin, died Monday evening June 10, 1996, at the Center. He
was the widower of the late Helena (Krall) Harlacher.
Born Dec. 18, 1916 in Warrington Twp., York County, he was the son of the late Malcome
and Elmira (Kroft) Harlacher.
He was a retired carpenter from Carroll Builders, Dillsburg, and worked for several
others, an Army veteran and ex-POW of World War II, a member of Red Mount United Methodist
Church, East Berlin, the NRA and the American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor.
Surviving are his foster daughter, Patsy L. Vaughn of Dillsburg, two sisters, Mildred
Yost of Rossville and Ferry Fetrow of Dover and nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will he held 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Red Mount United Methodist
Church, Route 194, East Berlin, with his pastors, Rev Thomas Shatto and the Rev the Rev.
and Mrs. John Lehr officiating. Burial will be in the Red Mount Cemetery. A viewing will
be held 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Cocklin Funeral Home, 30 N. Chestnut St., Dillsburg

Dorothy Marie Bergstresser Hockenberry, 69, of East Berlin RD 1, died suddenly Sunday
morning Feb. 12, 1995, at Hanover General Hospital.
Born March 20, 1925, in Port Royal, Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late
Dean E. and Mabel Abbott Bergstresser, Sr.
She is the wife of Quig M. Hockenberry.
She was a member of Red Mount United Methodist Church and the East Berlin United
Methodist Women.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Diane C. Bowman of York,
and Dorothy K. Yost, of East Berlin; two sons Richard O. Hockenberry, of Glendale, Ariz.,
and Steven E. Hockenberry, of Camp Hill; 12 grandchildren, and one brother, Dean E.
Bergstresser, Jr. of Port Royal.
She is predeceased by three brothers, Daniel, Robert and Theodore and two sisters,
Louise B. Barner and Ruth B. Zendt.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday from Red Mount United Methodist
Church, East Berlin, with the Rev. M. Thomas Shatto, the Rev. Frederick Bennetch and the
Rev. John Lehr, pastors of Wellsville United Methodist Parish, officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
A viewing will be held 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the church and from 9:30 a.m. Wednesday
until services at the church.

Nellie E. Hoffman
Mrs. Nellie E. Hoffman, formerly of 227 Carlisle Street, died at 7:45 oclock last
night at Turners Convalescent Home, near Porters Sideling. She was 70.
A member of St. Josephs Catholic Church, Mrs. Hoffman was a daughter of the late
Charles and Lillie Winand Gochenour. She is survived by two children, Mrs. Dorothy
Zartman, 1225 East Walnut street and Elwood F. Hoffman 233 Baltimore street; 12
grandchildren and three great grandchildren and two sisters, Mae Gochenour and Mrs. Olive
K Muller, both of York Springs.
Mervin W. Kimmel
Mervin W. Kimmel, 74, of East Berlin RD1 died Sunday, Nov. 26, 1989, at York Hospital.
Born in Wellsville, he was the son of the late William and Cora Myers Kimmel. He was
the husband of Charlotte Leathery Kimmel who died in 1983.
Mr. Kimmel was retired as an auto mechanic at the former Smiths Garage in East
Berlin.
He was a member of Mount Olivet United Church of Christ, served in the U.S. Navy during
World War II and was a life member of Richard J. Gross VFW Post 8896.
Surviving is one son, Sherman W. Kimmel of East Berlin, one daughter, Betty J. Albright
of East Berlin; three grandchildren, and one brother, Eugene Kimmel of Dillsburg.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Fred M. Sauter Funeral
Home, 306 Harrisburg St., East Berlin with Elder Harry B. Nell officiating. Burial will be

C. Wilmer Krall
C. Wilmer Krall, 79, East Berlin RD1, who taught for 44 years in the Northern York
County Schools prior to his retirement 20 years ago, died Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at the
Carlisle Hospital. He was a 1910 graduate of Bloomsburg State College and was a member of
Redmount EUB Church. Mr. Krall is survived by his wife, Mrs. Phoebe Griest Krall, a son
Earl C. Krall, Dillsburg; a daughter, Mrs. Clyde Harlacher, East Berlin, and a grandson.
The Rev. John Lehr, his pastor, will conduct the funeral service Wednesday at 2 p.m. at
Redmount EUB Church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the
Cocklin funeral home, Dillsburg, tomorrow (11/14/67) after 7 p.m.
Phoebe Krall
Mrs. Phoebe Griest Krall, 84, East Berlin RD1, widow of C. Wilmer Krall, died Tuesday
at 3:40 p.m. at Memorial Osteopathic Hospital, York.
Mrs. Krall was a member of Redmount United Methodist Church and its Womens
Society, and the Senior Citizens of East Berlin.
Surviving are a son, Earl C. Krall of Dillsburg, a daughter Mrs. Clyde E. Harlacher,
East Berlin RD1, one grandson, two brothers, Roy Griest, Dillsburg, and Ralph Griest, East
Berlin RD1.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Redmount United Methodist Church with
the pastor, the Rev. John Lehr, officiating. Burial will be in Redmount Church Cemetery.

Jessie A. (Wert) Lighty, 58, of East Berlin RD2, died Saturday night at Hanover General
Hospital, where she was a patient for five days. She was the wife of Homer T. Lighty.
The service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Fred M. Sauter Funeral Home, 306 Harrisburg
St. Relatives and friends may call tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Red
Mount Church cemetery, East Berlin RD1.
Mrs. Lighty also is survived by two daughters, Helena M. Lighty, Abbottstown Street,
East Berlin, and Audrey V. Lighty of home, a sister Sarah Miller, 1747 Hilton Ave., Dover,
and a number of nieces and nephews.
Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Allen C. Heckman, pastor of Zwingli United
Church of Christ, East Berlin.

Mrs. Laura Stevens May, widow of the late John May, died at 8:30 a.m. yesterday from a
complication of diseases at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. George
Groft, Washington Township, near this place. She was 75 years, 11 months and 19 days.
Mrs. May leaves the following children: Charles E. May, York Springs; Mrs. George Groft
near East Berlin; Mrs. Allen Groft, Thomasville; Mrs C. L. Mummert, Flora, Ind.; Thomas A.
May, East Berlin. She also leaves a brother, John A. Stevens, Wisconsin and two sisters,

private services at the house at 1 p.m. and concluding services open to the public at
Redmount Church at 2 p.m. The Rev., Mr. Moore, Wellsville, will officiate. Burial will be

Genevive S.
Meckley
Genevive S. (Kurtz) Meckley, 58, of Scott Cove, died Sunday, July 26, 1998, as the
result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Stoney Point Road, East Berlin,
Reading Township. She was the wife of Carl O. Meckley.
Born April 25, 1940 in York, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kurtz.
She was a member of Red Mount United Methodist Church in East Berlin and the Hanover
Country Club.
Surviving are two daughters, Amy B. Strausbaugh of Hanover and Beth A. Villarose of
York, a son Thomas J. Utley of Lancaster, three grandchildren, a brother, David Kurtz of
Raleigh, N.C. and a sister Effie Braisted of Weaverville, N.C.
The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday from Red Mount United Methodist Church,
East Berlin, with her pastor, the Rev. Thomas M. Shatto officiating. A viewing will be
held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Feiser Funeral Home, Inc., 306 Harrisburg St., East
Berlin, and Friday from 1 p.m. until the service at the church. Final disposition will be
at the convenience of the family.

Olive K. Muller
Mrs. Olive K. Muller, 92, formerly of York Springs, died Sunday at the Brethren Home,
Cross Keys.
She was born in East Berlin, a daughter of the late Charles and Lillie Winand
Gochenour.
She had served as superintendent of the Home of Merciful Rest, Wilminton, Del., and
also worked for Peters Orchards. She was a veteran of World War I, having served in the
Army Nursing Corps.
Mrs. Muller was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, York Springs, and belonged to
the York Registered Nurse Association.
Surviving are a son, Hollis L. Muller, Jr., Potomac, Md; a daughter Mrs. Marguerite
Jane Kierman, Punta Gorda, Fla.; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a sister,
Miss Mae Gochenour, New Oxford.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the R. L. Pittenturf funeral home, 232 Main
St., York Springs, with the Rev. Adrian J. Shearer officiating. Burial will be in Red
Mount Cemetery. There will be no viewing.

Emma Jane Mummert
Mrs. Emma Jane Mummert, widow of A. B. Mummert, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs.
W. E. Harbold, Bermudian, on Saturday at 1:20 p.m., aged 77 years. Surviving are one
daughter, Mrs. Harbold with whom she lived, and one brother, Benjamin Nell, Bermudian. The
funeral will be held Tuesday morning with services at the home at 9:30 oclock.
Further services will be held at the Red Mount Evangelical church. The Rev. B. C. Moore,
pastor, will officiate. Interment will be made in the cemetery adjoining the church. L. C.

Robert H. Novotni, Sr.
Robert H. Novotni, Sr., 73, of Mechanicsburg died Monday at home. He retired from the
Army and its Harrisburg District Recruiting Command, was a War World II veteran and Purple
Heart recipient and a member of Red Mount United Methodist Church, East Berlin,
Mechanicsburg American Legion Post 109, New Cumberland VFW Post 7415, Camp Hill F&AM
Lodge 781, Harrisburg Tall Cedars of Lebanon Forest 43 and Zembo Shrine Temple.
He was the widower of Cardi Yaple Novotni. Surviving are a daughter, Sandy of
Mechanicsburg, a son Rob Jr. of Malvern, a sister, Evelyn Bond of Media, and two
grandsons.
Services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday in his church. Burial will be in the church
cemetery.
Viewing will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday in the church. Trefz & Bowser Funeral

Cody R. VanWinkle
Cadet Airman 1st Class Cody R. VanWinkle, 16, passed away Saturday
afternoon, October 4, 2003 as the result of an automobile accident.
He was born March 19, 1987 in York, the son of Steve R. & Michelle D. Hummel
VanWinkle.
He was a Dover High School student, Class of 2005. A member of the Civil Air Patrol,
U.S Air Force Auxiliary and also a member of the Open Arms Christian Fellowship, York
Springs. Cody also loved computers and motorcycles.
Along with his parents, he is survived by his sister, Courtney R. VanWinkle at home;
his maternal grandparents, Shirley & Larry Hummel of Dillsburg; and his paternal
grandparents, Gene & Lois VanWinkle of Dillsburg.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Open Arms Christian Fellowship, 5410 Old
Harrisburg Rd., York Springs, with Pastor Daniel S. Summers officiating. Burial in the Red
Mount Cemetery, Washington Twp., York County. A viewing will be held Wednesday, from 2 to
4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at the Cocklin Funeral Home, Inc., 30 N. Chestnut St., Dillsburg.

On Feb. 7, 1955, at 12:55 a.m. at his late residence, 206 E. Cottage Place, Rev. Albert
F. Weaver, D.D., husband of Anna Crowell Weaver, aged 78 years, 6 months and 6 days.

Nathan T. Zech
Nathan T. Zech, 32, died Thursday, November 11, 2004, at his residence. Funeral
services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Asbury United Methodist Church, 340 E. Market Street,
York, with the Rev. David McCullough officiating. Burial will be in Red Mount Cemetery
with Masonic rites provided by F&AM, Zeredetha Lodge 451. A visitation will be from 9

Kenneth Road, York, is in charge of arrangements. Born October 25, 1972, in York, a son of
J. Thomas and Jana J. [Jacobs] Zech of York, he was a 1991 graduate of West York Senior
High School. He earned a bachelors degree from California University and also was a
graduate of Municipal Police Officers Academy. Nathan was a police detective with
Springettsbury Township Police Department where he had worked for eight years. In 2003
Nathan was recognized as Police Officer of the Year for Springettsbury Twp. He was a
member of York County Quick Response Team; Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 73; Free and
Accepted Masons, Zeredetha Lodge 451; Viking Athletic Assoc.; and was a previous member of
York County Drug Task Force. In addition to his parents, Nathan is survived by a brother,
Tobin L. and his wife, Tania Zech of York; maternal grandmother, Alliene Jacobs of York;
paternal grandmother, Dorothy Zech Klinedinst of York; two nieces, Amber and Miranda Zech;
and numerous aunts and uncles. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to
